The German Ambassador to Nigeria, Annett Günther, has denied reports claiming that the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, revoked the land allocated for the Museum of West African Art (MOWAA) in Benin City.
In a statement, Günther described the report as “completely untrue,” stressing that the German government maintains a strong partnership with the Edo State Government and the MOWAA project. She said both parties remain committed to cultural cooperation and the preservation of West African art and heritage.
According to her, Germany continues to support Nigeria’s cultural institutions and the repatriation of Benin bronzes, adding that misinformation could harm the positive progress achieved so far.
Governor Obaseki’s administration has also maintained that the state government’s collaboration with MOWAA remains intact and focused on boosting tourism and cultural education in the state.
