Political commentator Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over former U.S. President Donald Trump’s reported military threat to Nigeria. According to Baba-Ahmed, the situation shows that Tinubu’s government has not performed better than former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. He argued that if Nigeria had a strong and competent leadership, no foreign leader would feel confident issuing such threats.
Baba-Ahmed stressed that Trump’s remarks reflect a serious failure in Nigeria’s diplomatic image and internal security management. He said that for a foreign leader to speak about intervening in Nigeria, it shows that the country is seen as weak and struggling with violence and instability. He also said that current government actions have not convinced the world that Nigeria is on the right path.
He noted that under Tinubu, insecurity, hardship, and political tensions have continued instead of reducing. According to him, ordinary Nigerians feel no major difference between the former administration and the current one. He insisted that Nigerians voted for a new direction but ended up experiencing similar governance problems.
Baba-Ahmed called on the government to urgently restore law and order, rebuild trust with citizens, and improve foreign relations. He also urged leaders to take responsibility and stop acting like everything is fine while the country struggles. He stressed that national security and public confidence should come before politics and propaganda.
He concluded by urging Nigerians to remain united and demand better leadership, warning that foreign interference becomes possible when a country fails to manage its internal affairs effectively. According to him, only true reforms and responsible governance can protect Nigeria’s sovereignty and future.
