Residents of Amangwo community in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State have stormed the Ikwuano LGA headquarters in Isiala Oboro, demanding justice for a 22-year-old young man, Solomon Ikokwu, who was allegedly murdered by suspected former members of a disbanded community security team. The peaceful protest took place along the Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene road as villagers chanted songs of sorrow and called for immediate action from authorities.
The protest follows public pleas by the victim’s mother, Mrs. Onyekachi Ikokwu, who cried out for justice and urged security agencies to arrest and prosecute those responsible for her son’s death. Her cries drew attention to the case, leading to the arrest of some suspects who are currently being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Umuahia.
During the protest, community members alleged that Solomon was killed on false accusations, and in a horrific act, his head, hand, and other body parts were taken away. They claimed his remains were buried in a shallow grave near a stream, calling the incident a brutal and heartbreaking tragedy.
One of the protesters, simply known as Brother Kent, emphasized that the case must not be ignored. He demanded a thorough investigation and full prosecution of everyone involved. “We want justice for Solomon. We want his head and body parts recovered,” the protesters chanted as they gathered at the local government headquarters.
The protesters appealed to the Chairman of Ikwuano LGA, Anthony Nwaubani, to ensure justice is delivered swiftly. They also revealed that the matter has been reported to the Department of State Services (DSS) for further action and monitoring.
