PDP: We’re correcting decay that started before 2015 elections – Factional acting chair, Mohammed

A factional acting chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mohammed, has stated that the party is currently working to fix the problems that began long before the 2015 general elections. Speaking during a media briefing, Mohammed explained that the PDP suffered internal issues and loss of direction years before it lost power at the national level. According to him, the party must address these old challenges to rebuild trust and return to its former strength.

Mohammed pointed out that the decay did not happen overnight, saying it was the result of years of unresolved disputes and poor leadership decisions. He stressed that the faction’s goal is not to fight fellow members but to restore discipline, accountability, and unity within the party. He urged PDP members to prioritise the interest of the party over personal ambitions.

The acting chairman noted that the PDP remains an important political force and can return to winning ways if reforms continue. He assured party supporters that the current restructuring efforts are focused on rebuilding internal democracy, improving transparency, and preparing the party for future elections. He also called on Nigerians to trust the PDP again, promising a more focused and united leadership.

Mohammed criticised those who have chosen to create more divisions instead of working for progress. He warned that internal conflict only benefits the ruling party and weakens the opposition. He urged all aggrieved members to join hands in restoring the party’s values and legacy rather than fighting for positions.

As the PDP continues to deal with internal crisis and factional leadership claims, Mohammed believes the current reform process is necessary for long-term survival. He expressed confidence that the PDP will rise again if members stay committed to rebuilding and supporting ongoing restructuring efforts.
