EPL: Why Salah is struggling at Liverpool this season – Michael Owen

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has shared his thoughts on why Mohamed Salah is not performing at his usual high level this season. The Egyptian star has only scored three goals and made two assists in nine Premier League matches — a slower start compared to previous campaigns.

Owen believes age is beginning to play a role in Salah’s performances. He pointed out that the Liverpool forward is now 33 years old, a stage where many footballers naturally begin to slow down. The former England star also noted that Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid has affected Salah’s game, as the right-back used to supply him with key passes and support on the flank.

According to Owen, Liverpool’s new setup has changed the way Salah receives the ball. Instead of getting passes high up the pitch, Salah is now collecting the ball deeper — around 10% deeper than last season — which reduces his chances to score. Conor Bradley, who has taken over the position, plays a different style that does not complement Salah the same way.

Despite these challenges, Owen is confident that Salah will return to his best form. He reminded fans that Salah has proven himself consistently for many years and remains one of the most dependable players in the Premier League.

Liverpool supporters will be hoping the Egyptian king finds his rhythm again as the season progresses.
