Resident doctors working with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) have announced they will join the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) in an indefinite nationwide strike starting Saturday, November 1, 2025.
The decision was confirmed in a letter dated October 30, 2025, and addressed to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. The notice was signed by the President of the ARD-FCTA, Dr. George Ebong, and the Secretary, Dr. Agbor Affiong. According to them, the move was unanimously supported during an emergency congress meeting on Wednesday.
The doctors explained that their strike will continue until all their demands are fully met. They also stated that even if NARD later suspends its strike, ARD-FCTA will remain on strike until issues affecting doctors in the FCT are resolved.
NARD had earlier declared that it would begin an indefinite industrial action on November 1, 2025, over unmet agreements with the government. The FCTA doctors said they have been pushed to the point of taking “decisive action” because the promises made by stakeholders, including approvals by Minister Wike, have not been fulfilled.
It will be recalled that ARD-FCTA suspended a previous strike in September 2025 after assurances from the Senate Committee on FCT that their issues would be resolved. With no progress made since then, the doctors say they are left with no choice but to withdraw services again.
