The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Bernard Doro as a minister after a short screening session that lasted less than half an hour. Doro becomes the third ministerial nominee from Plateau State and takes the position previously held by Nentawe Yilwatda, who resigned recently.
During the screening, Doro shared his plans to build a strong and fair humanitarian system in Nigeria. He said his goal is to ensure that support reaches everyone in need, without bias, and guided by fairness and independence.
He also emphasised the importance of better cooperation among security agencies to identify and help citizens affected by emergencies and crises. According to him, technology will be key in improving this coordination and response.
Senators asked him a few questions and expressed satisfaction with his qualifications and preparedness for the role. After that, he was asked to “take a bow and go”, a tradition in the Senate for nominees considered credible and competent.
President Bola Tinubu nominated Doro last week to replace Yilwatda, continuing his adjustments in the Federal Executive Council to strengthen governance.
