The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has fired back at comments made by Phrank Shaibu, spokesperson for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, over President Bola Tinubu’s recent decision regarding a presidential pardon. Shaibu had accused Tinubu of making a “U-turn,” but the APC said the remarks showed a lack of understanding and were meant to mislead Nigerians.
According to Lagos APC spokesperson Mogaji Seye Oladejo, President Tinubu’s actions were not emotional or political, but guided strictly by legal procedures and constitutional requirements. He argued that responsible leaders sometimes review decisions based on law and due process, and that this should not be described as inconsistency or weakness.
Oladejo insisted that Atiku’s camp was only trying to create unnecessary controversy. He said the opposition must stop playing politics with every national issue and stop “weaponizing ignorance” to gain attention. He added that strong democracies around the world recognize that leaders can revisit decisions when necessary without being accused of failure.
Lagos APC stressed that the former Vice President and his aides should focus on constructive politics rather than attacking government decisions without facts. The party noted that Nigerians are tired of constant political noise and emotional reactions from those who lost elections, saying the country needs maturity and focus, not bitterness.
The ruling party concluded by urging citizens to ignore distractions from the opposition. It emphasized that President Tinubu will continue to lead based on law, accountability, and national interest, and not be swayed by emotional political comments. The APC said Nigeria is progressing and cannot be stopped by political attacks or media drama.
