Trump rules out third term bid, gives reasons

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has said he will not run for a third term, explaining that the U.S. Constitution prevents him from doing so. Trump made this clear while speaking on Air Force One, ending months of speculation about whether he might try to return again after his current term ends.

Trump, who is 79 years old, admitted that he has very high approval ratings among his supporters, but still recognised the constitutional limit. He stated that although some people have encouraged him to continue beyond two terms, he must respect the law. “I have my highest poll numbers ever… but I guess I am not allowed to run again,” he said. “It’s too bad.”

The U.S. Constitution clearly restricts presidents to two terms in office. Trump returned to the White House for a second term in January, after previously serving as president from 2017 to 2021. Over time, he has hinted that some of his supporters wanted him to stay longer, but the law does not allow it.

Trump’s comment marks one of the clearest acknowledgements that he will not pursue a third term, even though rumours and speculation have continued for months. His refusal puts an end to talks about a possible 2028 run and reinforces the constitutional protection against leaders serving indefinitely.

Despite this, Trump’s influence in U.S. politics remains strong. With high poll numbers and continued support from his base, he is expected to play a major role in shaping the future of the Republican Party and national politics.
