A senior aide to former Bayelsa State Governor and ex–Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, has refuted claims suggesting Sylva was linked to a coup plot. Julius Bokoru, Sylva’s media assistant, dismissed the reports on Wednesday, describing them as false, politically motivated, and aimed at damaging Sylva’s reputation.
According to Bokoru, Sylva has always supported democratic ideals and has never been associated with any anti-government activity. He stressed that Sylva remains a strong supporter of President Bola Tinubu and is firmly committed to peaceful democratic processes in Nigeria.
The statement alleged that the false accusations were part of a deliberate attempt by political rivals to tarnish Sylva’s name ahead of the 2027 elections. Bokoru maintained that the former minister’s record in public office reflects peace, dialogue, and respect for the rule of law.
Bokoru also confirmed that Sylva’s Abuja home was recently raided by individuals believed to be military operatives. The operation reportedly caused damage to the property, and neither Sylva nor his family received any official information regarding the raid. At the time, Sylva and his wife were abroad for medical checks, after which Sylva was scheduled to attend a conference in Malaysia.
The aide concluded by reaffirming Sylva’s loyalty to President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that no political attack or misinformation campaign will change his record of supporting constitutional governance.
