Push for tech-driven inclusive growth – NITDA to Nigerian governors

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has called on Nigerian governors to strengthen digital partnerships to help Nigeria achieve inclusive growth. NITDA’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa, made the appeal during his visit to the Nigeria Governors’ Forum Secretariat in Abuja. He stressed that technology development must involve every level of government to succeed and uplift citizens across the country.

Inuwa explained that digital transformation is not only a federal responsibility but a national mission that requires state and local government participation. He encouraged governors to integrate NITDA programmes into their state structures and support digital policies that benefit ordinary Nigerians. According to him, “No one succeeds in isolation. We must work together as an ecosystem to create prosperity through technology.”

A key priority for NITDA is digital literacy. Inuwa shared plans to achieve 70% digital literacy by 2027 and 95% by 2030 under the National Digital Literacy Framework. To make this possible, NITDA is working with the Federal Ministry of Education and key education bodies like NUC and NBTE to include digital skills in all school levels – primary, secondary, and tertiary.

The DG also invited state leaders to actively take part in the International Conference on Electronic Governance (ICEGOV) and the Digital Nigeria Conference, aimed at sharing knowledge and improving digital governance across all states. He noted that these events will provide opportunities for collaboration and ideas that will improve service delivery and boost innovation.

Responding, the Director-General of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Dr. Abdulateef Shittu, praised NITDA’s efforts and emphasised that technology is essential for economic growth and equal opportunities. He described digital transformation as a national priority that can expand job opportunities, improve government services, and lift millions of Nigerians into a better quality of life.
