The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a man named Innocent Chukwuma for allegedly using social media to promote military takeover in Nigeria. Chukwuma reportedly posted messages calling for the military to remove the current democratic government.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama revealed the arrest on his official X platform on Wednesday. According to him, DSS operatives tracked Chukwuma to Oyigbo, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he was taken into custody.
The suspect was said to have used the social media account @TheAgroman to call for a coup, claiming that only the military could “reset the country” and urging citizens to support a takeover. His posts suggested suspending the government and removing the ruling party.
Reports indicated that after his arrest, Chukwuma began cooperating with DSS investigators. Security sources believe the posts posed a threat to national stability and violated the law against inciting military takeover.
The arrest serves as a warning that authorities are monitoring online activities closely, especially content that threatens Nigeria’s democracy. Citizens are advised to express views responsibly and avoid posts that may endanger national security.
