‘Without you my story’s incomplete’ – 2Baba pens emotional letter on 25 years in music

Nigerian music legend Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has penned an emotional open letter to celebrate his 25th anniversary in the music industry. The heartfelt message, titled “Open Letter of Gratitude: 2Baba @ 25 Years in the Industry,” reflects on his journey, the people who stood by him, and the lessons he learned along the way.

2Baba described his journey as one filled with “gratitude, memories, lessons, and love,” noting that his story would be incomplete without the people who supported him through challenges and triumphs. “This celebration is not mine alone,” he wrote. “It belongs to everyone who played a role in shaping the story of Innocent Idibia, 2Baba.”

The African Queen crooner went on to acknowledge several influential figures who helped launch and guide his career. He praised Nelson Brown for believing in the Plantashun Boiz trio—himself, Faze, and Blackface—when no one else did. He also thanked Baba Keke (Kenny Ogungbe), D1 (Dayo Adeneye), Eddie Lawani, and DJ Jimmy Jatt for their mentorship, platforms, and unwavering support over the years.

2Baba expressed deep appreciation to DJ Jimmy Jatt, calling him a brother and constant supporter, while describing Baba Keke and D1 as mentors who opened doors that changed not just his life but Nigerian music as a whole. “You opened doors that led us from dreams to destiny. We made history together,” he said.

He ended by dedicating his milestone to everyone who contributed to his success, stating, “Without the people who believed, corrected, and supported me, my story would have been incomplete.” From his early days with Plantashun Boiz in the late 1990s to becoming one of Africa’s greatest music icons, 2Baba’s legacy continues to shine with timeless hits like African Queen, If Love Is a Crime, and For Instance.
