WAFCON 2026Q: Beating Super Falcons difficult task – Benin coach Ouzerou

Head coach of the Amazons of Benin Republic, Abdoulaye Ouzerou, has admitted that facing the Super Falcons of Nigeria in the second leg of their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier will be a difficult challenge. The return leg is set for Tuesday (today) at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, with Benin needing a massive win to overturn their first-leg deficit.

The Beninese side lost 2-0 to the defending African champions last week in Lome, and they now need to score at least three goals without conceding to stand a chance of qualifying for the 2026 WAFCON finals. Despite the tough task ahead, Ouzerou said his team remains determined to fight and continue improving with every game.

Speaking ahead of the match, Ouzerou acknowledged the dominance of the Super Falcons, describing them as a team with a winning mentality. “When the Super Falcons play, their mindset is to win — that’s what champions do,” he said. “We know they’ll want to make their fans happy after winning the last WAFCON. For us, the goal is to grow stronger and hopefully make it to the next WAFCON.”

The coach expressed confidence in the progress his team has made, adding that the experience of playing against one of Africa’s best teams will help them build character and improve tactically. He noted that while the chances of overturning the result are slim, the team’s focus remains on giving their best performance and making their nation proud.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons, who boast some of the continent’s finest players, are expected to go all out to secure another dominant win and book their place in the WAFCON 2026 finals. The match promises to be a thrilling encounter between two West African sides at different stages of their football development.
