Segilola Resources Cements Leadership Role in Nigeria’s Mining Future

Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL), a subsidiary of Thor Explorations Ltd and the operator of Nigeria’s first commercial gold project — the Segilola Gold Mine in Osun State — has reaffirmed its leadership in the mining sector. The company took center stage as a Gold Sponsor at the 2025 Nigeria Mining Week (NMW) held in Abuja from October 13th to 17th, 2025.

At the start of the event, SROL hosted its Second Annual Stakeholder Reception at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, bringing together over 100 key industry players, including policymakers, regulators, financiers, and development partners. Dignitaries such as Engr. Faruk Yusuf Yabo (Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development), Prof. Innocent Bariko (DG, NESREA), Engr. Simon Obadiah Nkom (DG, Mining Cadastre Office), and Prof. Olusegun Omoniyi Ige (DG, NGSA) were among those present. The reception emphasized collaboration, transparency, and sustainability as central themes for Nigeria’s mining growth.

During the event, Segun Lawson, CEO of SROL, expressed gratitude to partners and stakeholders who have supported the company’s journey. He stated, “It takes courage to do things differently — to build mines not just for profit, but for people, the planet, and posterity.” His message reinforced the company’s dedication to responsible mining practices that prioritize both community well-being and environmental stewardship.

Guests at the reception also witnessed the results of SROL’s livelihood restoration and community development initiatives, which aim to create diversified and resilient local economies. These programs highlight SROL’s belief that true mining success lies in social impact, not just economic output.

Throughout Nigeria Mining Week 2025, SROL played an active role in thought leadership discussions, focusing on sustainable finance, regulatory reforms, and the future of responsible mining. The company’s exhibition booth attracted major stakeholders eager to engage with the team behind Nigeria’s first operational gold mine.

As Nigeria’s mining sector continues to grow, Segilola Resources Operating Limited remains at the forefront — demonstrating that responsible mining is not just possible but essential for building a sustainable future for communities and the nation at large.
