A 21-year-old nursing mother, Maryam Muntari, has allegedly killed her neighbour, Ahmed Kalo, after he reportedly tried to rape her in Idoji-Okene, Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State. The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday, October 23, 2025, around 5:30 a.m.

According to eyewitnesses, Maryam had gone to Kalo’s house to deliver a jerrycan of water she helped him carry from the community water point when the shocking event occurred. It was gathered that Kalo, aged 65, allegedly locked the door after she entered and dragged her into his bedroom while holding a knife.

A community member, Enezi Nuhu, explained that Maryam pretended to cooperate out of fear but acted quickly when Kalo dropped the knife to undress. “She grabbed the knife and stabbed him before running out for help,” Nuhu said. Sadly, Kalo reportedly died from the injuries before neighbours could come to his aid.

The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the incident. The Command’s spokesperson, CSP William Aya, said the suspect was arrested and taken into custody for further investigation. Aya noted that the victim’s body had been taken to the Reference Hospital for autopsy.

Police authorities said an investigation is ongoing to determine the full details surrounding the killing. They also assured that the case will be handled according to the law while urging residents to remain calm and avoid spreading false information.
