Ahead of the Anambra State Governorship Election scheduled for November 8, 2025, a socio-political organization, the Igbo Political Network (IPN), has announced the deployment of over 5,000 independent observers to monitor the exercise. The group said the move is to ensure transparency, prevent electoral malpractice, and guarantee that the results reflect the will of the people.
Speaking in Abakaliki, the President of IPN, Chief Alex Okemiri, emphasized that the Anambra election is not just a state affair but a historic event for the entire South-East region. He described the poll as a test of democratic integrity in Igbo land and urged all stakeholders — politicians, security agencies, and electoral officials — to uphold fairness and peace during the election.
Okemiri explained that the observers were mobilized despite economic challenges, adding that members of the group contributed resources to support the initiative. He stressed that the aim was to ensure a peaceful, free, and fair election, countering stereotypes of political unrest in the South-East.
The IPN leader also charged the newly appointed INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, to remain impartial and ensure that all votes count. He described the Anambra election as an integrity test for the new electoral chief ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning against any form of favoritism or manipulation.
Okemiri further called on security agencies to act professionally and ethically during the election. He reiterated that the IPN and its observers will actively resist vote-buying, intimidation, and any form of electoral misconduct to safeguard democracy in the region.
