Zamfara APC dismisses crisis claims, accuses Shinkafi, Marafa of seeking attention

The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied reports of any internal crisis, describing the claims by Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi and former senator Kabiru Marafa as false and aimed at creating unnecessary tension within the party. In a statement released on Saturday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris Gusau, insisted that the Zamfara APC remains united under the leadership of Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.

Gusau described Shinkafi and Marafa as “disgruntled politicians” seeking political relevance through public controversies. He stated that the party’s leadership in the state has remained strong and focused, working collectively to ensure progress and stability within the APC. “The Zamfara APC is one big family under the guidance of respected leaders like Matawalle, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, Senator Ahmad Sani Yarima, and former governor Mamuda Shinkafi,” he added.

Earlier, Shinkafi had urged President Bola Tinubu and APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, to intervene in what he termed growing divisions within the Zamfara chapter. He warned that failure to act could weaken the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections. However, Gusau dismissed these comments, alleging that Shinkafi turned against Matawalle despite previously benefiting from his political support.

The party spokesman also took a swipe at Marafa, accusing him of abandoning the APC after failing to secure a federal appointment. He said both men were only trying to remain politically relevant by spreading false information about the party’s internal affairs.

Gusau reaffirmed that the APC in Zamfara remains united and focused, pointing to the party’s recent victory in the Kaura-Namoda South State Assembly by-election as clear evidence of its growing strength. He assured that the APC leadership will continue to consolidate peace and unity in preparation for the 2027 elections.
