The Lagos State Government has successfully completed the installation of the final Ductile Cast Iron (DCI) pipe in the ongoing Adiyan II Water Project, marking a major step forward in efforts to expand access to clean and safe water for millions of residents. This milestone underscores the government’s dedication to improving the city’s water infrastructure and meeting the needs of its fast-growing population.
Confirming the development, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced on Saturday via his verified X handle that the last DCI pipe—number 944—was installed on October 24, 2025. He described the achievement as “a significant step forward” toward sustainable water supply and improved living conditions in Lagos.
According to Wahab, the completion of the 8-kilometre transmission pipeline, which now extends to Akute, brings the state closer to delivering an additional 70 million gallons of potable water per day to residents once the project is completed. He noted that the Adiyan II Water Project will significantly enhance water distribution and reduce the burden on residents who rely on boreholes and private water sources.
The commissioner further emphasized that the project is in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision for sustainable urban development and improved welfare through reliable public infrastructure. He assured that the state government remains committed to rebuilding and expanding the water network to ensure equitable water access for all communities.
Wahab added that the Adiyan II initiative forms a crucial part of Lagos’ broader plan to bridge the water supply gap, strengthen the city’s resilience, and provide a cleaner, healthier environment for future generations.
