‘I struggled financially, fell into depression one year after BBNaija’ – Sammie

Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Samuel Jacob, popularly known as Sammie, has opened up about his emotional and financial struggles after leaving the reality show. In a heartfelt video shared on Instagram, the reality star revealed that he fell into depression about a year after the show ended, as he battled to adjust to the pressures of fame and survival in Lagos.

Sammie confessed that despite the public perception of success, he often felt lonely and overwhelmed by life’s challenges. “A year after the show, I lost count of how many times I felt depressed. I would sit alone in my Lekki house and cry. A grown man with beards, just crying and asking God why. Some days I’d thank Him; other days, I’d just break down,” he recounted.

The reality TV star said that his financial instability made things worse, as he constantly received more debit alerts than credit notifications. “There was barely money coming in, but I still had a life to maintain. It messed with my head,” he admitted. Sammie noted that he faced pressure to keep up appearances as a celebrity even though his income was unstable.

He also revealed that leaving university for the BBNaija show disrupted his life plans and left him struggling to find direction afterward. “I was in Lagos, trying to live up to the ‘star boy’ tag, but there was no real income,” he said. According to Sammie, the glamour of fame masked the real challenges he faced behind closed doors.

Reflecting on his experience, Sammie said there were moments when he felt left behind as his peers seemed to be progressing faster. “You’d see young guys pulling up in their G-Wagons while I’d be eating indomie, wearing a fine shirt, and nobody would know what I was going through,” he said. Sammie’s story highlights the mental health struggles many reality TV stars face after the spotlight fades.
