The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied the allegations made by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, claiming that his signature was forged on documents sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The BoT described the claims as false, misleading, and baseless.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, the BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, clarified that the document in question — a notification letter to INEC regarding the party’s upcoming elective national convention — was genuinely signed by both the PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and Senator Anyanwu himself. According to Wabara, the signing took place during the 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the PDP on August 25, witnessed by several key stakeholders including PDP governors, BoT members, and NEC representatives.
Wabara stated that although the BoT typically avoids commenting on internal administrative matters publicly, the seriousness of the accusation and its potential to mislead party members made it necessary to issue a factual clarification. He stressed that the PDP’s records and witnesses confirm that the signature on the letter was authentic and not forged as claimed.
The BoT Chairman further revealed that after the NEC meeting, Senator Anyanwu was formally inaugurated as Secretary of the Contact and Mobilization Sub-Committee for the 2025 National Convention. In this capacity, Wabara noted, Anyanwu had co-signed official documents of the sub-committee, including appointment letters to members, alongside Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, who serves as the committee’s chairman.
Wabara concluded by urging members of the PDP to remain focused on unity and preparation for the forthcoming convention rather than being distracted by unfounded claims. He assured that the party’s leadership remains transparent and committed to due process in all administrative matters.
