A Nigerian-born British legal practitioner, Mrs. Margaret Obi, has been appointed as a High Court Judge in England and Wales, marking a historic milestone as the first African-born person to hold the position.
Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, announced the news in a post on X (formerly Twitter) titled “Celebrating Excellence Beyond Borders.” He described the appointment as a proud moment for Nigerians worldwide, commending Mrs. Obi’s 27 years of legal practice and seven years of judicial service as proof of her integrity, commitment, and professional excellence.
Peter Obi also clarified that despite sharing the same last name, Mrs. Margaret Obi is not his wife, explaining that his wife identifies as Mrs. Margaret Peter-Obi. He emphasized that the newly appointed judge’s success reflects the strength of Nigerian professionals making global impact.
According to him, Mrs. Obi’s elevation should serve as an inspiration to Nigerians, especially the younger generation, proving that with diligence and integrity, one can achieve greatness on the world stage.
Peter Obi concluded by urging Nigerian leaders to build a society that nurtures excellence, so that such outstanding accomplishments can also thrive within the country’s borders.
