FCT: We can’t solve every developmental problem – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that the current administration cannot address every development challenge in the nation’s capital at once. Wike made this statement on Friday during a media parley in Abuja while reacting to recent criticism from the former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Peter Obi had earlier condemned the deplorable condition of public schools in the FCT after visiting LEA Primary School, Kapwa, where he reportedly found classrooms without chairs, toilets, or basic learning facilities. Obi described the situation as “unacceptable” and said no responsible government should allow such decay in the education sector.

Responding, Wike stated that the government of President Bola Tinubu is working to address major infrastructural and developmental issues, but it is unrealistic to expect that all problems will be solved immediately. He emphasized that governance is a continuous process, with each administration building upon the efforts of previous ones.

“I heard him when he said that public schools are in a dilapidated state across the FCT,” Wike noted. “We cannot solve every problem as far as development is concerned. Government is a continuum. There were several administrations before we came, and others will come after us.”

Wike further assured that the FCT Administration is prioritizing key infrastructure projects, including road rehabilitation, health facilities, and school upgrades. However, he maintained that progress must be gradual, as development requires both time and sustainable planning.
