Former Manchester United captain, Roy Keane, has shared his thoughts on the Premier League title race, saying that Arsenal currently look like a more complete team compared to Liverpool. Speaking on The Overlap, Keane pointed out that Arsenal’s defensive discipline gives them a big edge over their rivals.
Keane praised Mikel Arteta’s side for maintaining a balance between attack and defence, describing them as a team that plays with structure and unity. Arsenal currently sit three points clear at the top of the table, while Liverpool, after their 2-1 home defeat to Manchester United, have dropped to fourth and are four points off the pace.
He noted that Arsenal’s defensive stats underline their strength, with the Gunners conceding just three goals so far, compared to Liverpool’s 11 goals conceded. “Liverpool still have attacking quality and can score goals, but defensively they’ve become shaky,” Keane said. “Arsenal are attacking and defending as a team, but Liverpool are disjointed.”
The ex-United captain added that the Reds’ problem is not in attack but in maintaining shape when they lose possession. He recalled that even from the Community Shield, Liverpool had shown defensive vulnerabilities despite being able to score freely. Now, as their goal flow has slowed, their defensive weaknesses have become more visible.
Keane concluded by saying that Arsenal’s consistency, teamwork, and defensive discipline could prove crucial as the season progresses. He believes that if Liverpool don’t address their defensive lapses, they could fall further behind in the title race against Arsenal and Manchester City.
