Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has announced the dissolution of the Board and Management of the state-owned football club, Lobi Stars FC, Makurdi. The decision, which takes effect immediately, was made public in a statement issued by his media aide, Tersoo Kula, on Thursday.
According to the statement, the governor’s action is part of efforts to restructure and reposition the club for improved performance, better accountability, and greater efficiency both in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and other football competitions. The move signals a new beginning for one of Nigeria’s most popular state-owned football clubs.
Governor Alia also directed that all members of the dissolved management team handover official documents, assets, and responsibilities to the Commissioner for Youth, Sports, and Creativity without delay. This directive aims to ensure a smooth transition and maintain order during the reorganization process.
In his remarks, the governor appreciated the outgoing board and management for their contributions to the growth of Lobi Stars and their dedication to the state. He assured that a new management structure would soon be announced to lead the club into a new phase of development and competitiveness.
Governor Alia reaffirmed his administration’s strong commitment to sports development as a means of engaging young people, discovering new talents, and promoting unity across the state. He emphasized that sports, particularly football, remain a vital platform for both youth empowerment and social cohesion in Benue State.
