Alleged broken head: Resign now – Ex-commissioner tells Abia lawmaker

A former commissioner in Abia State has called for the immediate resignation of a state lawmaker accused of assaulting a fellow colleague, which allegedly resulted in a broken head. The incident, which reportedly occurred during a heated disagreement at the Abia State House of Assembly, has sparked widespread outrage among political observers and citizens.

According to reports, the altercation broke out during a session where lawmakers were debating an internal party issue. Eyewitnesses alleged that the confrontation turned physical, leaving one member injured. The ex-commissioner condemned the act, describing it as “a disgrace to democracy and a stain on legislative integrity.”

He stated that the accused lawmaker’s behaviour was unbecoming of a public officer and urged him to step down voluntarily pending a full investigation. “No responsible leader should remain in office after such an act. The Assembly must show it stands for discipline and accountability,” the former commissioner added.

Civil society groups and political commentators have also weighed in, demanding a transparent inquiry into the case. Many believe that the lawmaker’s resignation would send a strong message against violence in governance and help restore public confidence in the state legislature.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the Abia State House of Assembly has yet to release an official statement on the matter. Calls for calm continue as pressure mounts on the lawmaker to take responsibility for his actions and uphold the ethical standards expected of elected officials.
