Nigerian troops rescue 17 kidnap victims, including four Chinese nationals

Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully rescued at least 21 kidnapped victims, including four Chinese nationals, during coordinated operations across Kwara and Kogi States. The daring rescue was carried out on Thursday, October 17, 2025, under Operation FANSAN YAMA, an ongoing military mission to eliminate bandits and kidnappers in the North Central region.

According to a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Polycarp Okoye, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, the operation was executed by personnel from the 2 Division, 12 Brigade Lokoja, and 22 Armoured Brigade Ilorin. The statement revealed that the victims—comprising 14 men, 5 women, 1 infant, and 4 Chinese nationals—were freed after troops launched heavy attacks on several criminal hideouts in the area.

Some of the rescued victims were said to have been held in captivity for over four months before their release. The Army noted that the success was achieved through renewed strategies focusing on intelligence, collaboration, and swift tactical response. The rescued individuals were immediately given medical attention and handed over to appropriate authorities for further care.

Lieutenant Colonel Okoye highlighted that the operation demonstrated the Army’s determination to restore peace and stability in Kwara, Kogi, and surrounding states. He urged citizens to continue supporting security agencies by sharing timely information that could help in combating criminal activities.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the offensive against criminal elements and ensuring that the region remains safe for law-abiding citizens and investors.
