Five suspects arrested over attack on Kwara community

The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of five suspects in connection with the deadly attack on Oke-Ode community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state. The violent incident, which occurred on September 28, 2025, left at least 12 residents dead, including the Baale of Ogba-Ayo, while several others were abducted.

The police identified the suspects as Umar Babuga, Mohammed Ahmed, Aliyu Buba Alade, Sidi Buba Alade, and Sheu Buba Alade. According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the suspects were captured after an intensive manhunt and are currently in police custody for further investigation.

In a press briefing held in Ilorin, the Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, condemned the activities of local informants who allegedly collaborate with bandits, describing them as a major challenge in tackling rising cases of kidnapping in parts of the state. He revealed that such insiders help bandits plan attacks and evade security operatives.

The Commissioner also expressed concern over the growing trend of families choosing to pay ransom secretly rather than report kidnap cases to security agencies. According to him, fear of retaliation from abductors has made many residents reluctant to involve the police. “When kidnappers threaten victims’ families, they prefer to stay quiet and pay ransom instead of informing the police. This makes it harder to track and arrest these criminals,” he said.

CP Ojo, however, urged residents to speak out and cooperate with law enforcement agencies, assuring that the police remain committed to restoring peace and security in all affected areas. He promised that the command would intensify operations until all perpetrators are brought to justice.
