Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has sparked social media reactions with a cryptic Instagram post seemingly directed at striker Victor Osimhen. The post comes after reported on-field clashes involving Nwabali, Wilfred Ndidi, and Calvin Bassey during Nigeria’s emphatic 4-0 win over Benin Republic in a 2026 World Cup qualifier.
Osimhen was the star of the game, netting a brilliant hat-trick as Nigeria advanced to the continental playoffs. However, much of the post-match attention shifted to Nwabali, who was seen visibly frustrated during parts of the match. The goalkeeper appeared to push Ndidi after the midfielder tried to calm him during an altercation with a Benin player. Moments later, he was caught on camera exchanging heated words with defender Bassey as the players walked off at halftime.
Nwabali has faced mounting criticism recently following his shaky performance in Nigeria’s 2-1 win over Lesotho, where some fans called for him to be dropped. Despite the pressure, head coach Eric Chelle continued to trust the Chippa United shot-stopper, who has since been involved in several tense moments on the pitch.
Taking to his Instagram story, Nwabali posted: “I never fake care anyone. What I give, I give from my heart. Choose a good heart. People change so fast… I believe you VO9.” The initials “VO9” refer to Osimhen, sparking mixed interpretations among fans. Some saw it as a show of support for Osimhen, while others viewed it as a subtle dig at teammates or critics.
The Super Eagles are currently preparing for their next round of qualifiers as tensions and team dynamics continue to draw public attention. Supporters hope that the internal issues are resolved before the next set of matches as Nigeria eyes qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
