The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has vowed to eliminate all terrorist groups operating within Nigeria, including the newly identified sect known as Wulowulo, reportedly active in Nasarawa State. The military made this declaration following concerns raised by Governor Abdullahi Sule, who described the group as a splinter faction of Boko Haram attempting to infiltrate the North-Central region.
Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Markus Kangye, dismissed the emergence of new terror groups as mere name changes, emphasizing that the military would treat all armed factions as enemies of the state. “Call yourself whatever name you like — terrorist, bandit, or whatever. We will go after you,” Kangye said. “Our duty is either to fix an appointment between them and their maker or between them and the judicial system.”
Kangye clarified that while some security cases fall under the jurisdiction of the police, the military steps in when threats surpass police capacity. He added that ongoing operations nationwide would now include specific actions targeting the Wulowulo sect to restore peace and protect communities.
Revealing recent military achievements, Kangye noted that troops of Operation UDO KA had arrested a notorious IPOB/ESN commander known as Gentle and eight others across Imo and Ebonyi States. Weapons, ammunition, and a vehicle were recovered during the raids. In Abia State, a female collaborator linked to a wanted separatist leader was also arrested with three children in her custody.
In a related development, security forces in Kogi State raided a suspected bandit hideout in the Aherin-Bunu community, Kabba-Bunu LGA. The joint team, led by the State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara (rtd.), arrested injured kidnappers, fake medical workers, and destroyed the camp. Omodara warned that the state would demolish any property used to harbour criminals, stressing that Kogi would not serve as a refuge for lawbreakers.
