Argentina’s football legend and captain, Lionel Messi, has congratulated the country’s U-20 national team after they booked a spot in the final of the FIFA U-20 World Cup currently taking place in Chile.
Argentina secured their place in the final after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Colombia in the semi-final. The match was decided by a brilliant second-half strike from Inter Miami youngster, Mateo Silvetti, whose goal sealed the win for the South American giants.
Following the victory, Messi took to his Instagram story to celebrate the team’s success and applaud Silvetti’s performance. “Let’s go to the finals! Congratulations to everyone! Great @toto.silvetti,” the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner wrote.
The young Albiceleste will now face Morocco, who stunned France in the other semi-final, on Sunday, October 19, for a chance to lift the prestigious trophy. Morocco’s run to the final has been one of the biggest surprises of the tournament, setting up a thrilling final clash between the two sides.
Argentina remains the most successful nation in the history of the FIFA U-20 World Cup, having won the title six times. A win on Sunday would see them claim a record-extending seventh championship, further cementing their dominance in youth football.
