‘Best thing to happen to Bayelsa’ – APC chieftain hails Gov Diri for dumping PDP

A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, Festus Daumiebi Sunday, has applauded Governor Douye Diri for leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the move as the best thing to happen to Bayelsa in recent times.

Festus, who was an APC governorship aspirant in the 2023 elections, praised Diri’s decision as bold, visionary, and in tune with the political realities of the nation. He noted that the governor’s defection will strengthen Bayelsa’s connection with the federal government, boosting development and consolidating the state’s prosperity agenda.

He emphasized that political parties are merely platforms for elections, and Diri’s decision shows that he is a true statesman who understands the dynamics of Nigeria’s political climate. Festus also pledged that APC leaders and members across Bayelsa are fully prepared to welcome the governor and his team into the party.

Describing Governor Diri as peaceful, inclusive, and accommodating, Festus urged all Bayelsans to respect his right to freedom of association, stressing that every citizen has the liberty to belong to any political group. He further appealed to residents to prioritize the state’s interest over partisan differences to ensure continuous growth and development.

He also condemned the media attacks against Governor Diri over his defection, insisting that politics should never be treated like a secret society. According to him, Diri merely exercised his constitutional right to choose his political path, and leaders across the state should respect that choice.
