Osun NLC backs JUSUN strike, faults JSC on workers’ neglect

The Osun State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed its full support for the ongoing strike by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) in the state, accusing the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) of neglecting the welfare of judiciary workers.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the NLC described the actions of the JSC as “insensitive and unfair,” stressing that judiciary workers deserve better working conditions and respect. The Congress said the strike became necessary due to the commission’s failure to address long-standing issues such as poor welfare packages, promotion arrears, and lack of conducive working environments in courts across the state.

The NLC also criticized the JSC for what it called a “consistent disregard for dialogue,” adding that repeated efforts by JUSUN to engage the commission had been ignored. It said the commission’s attitude showed a lack of commitment to industrial harmony and the well-being of judicial staff.

While urging the Osun State Government to intervene immediately, the NLC maintained that JUSUN’s demands were legitimate, noting that no worker should be forced to work under unfavourable conditions. The Congress emphasized that the judiciary is a vital arm of government that requires motivated personnel to function effectively.

The statement concluded by calling on the JSC to engage JUSUN in meaningful negotiations, implement pending entitlements, and show transparency in handling workers’ affairs to avoid further disruptions in the state’s judicial system.
