The Presidential Boeing 737-700 Business Jet put up for sale by the Nigerian government in July 2025 remains unsold nearly four months later, according to confirmation from JetHQ, the U.S.-based firm managing the listing. Despite being featured on an international aircraft sales platform, the jet has not attracted a confirmed buyer.
JetHQ’s Market Research Assistant, Marinell Nuevo, confirmed via email that the aircraft “remains available.” However, when pressed for details on the sale, the company’s Market Research Manager, Laurie Barringer, declined to comment, saying such information is “proprietary” and can only be shared with the aircraft’s direct owner.
The aircraft, a Boeing 737-700 Business Jet, is currently managed by AMAC Aerospace, a Swiss company specialising in aircraft maintenance and sales. The listing notes that the jet underwent major refurbishment and multiple inspections at AMAC’s Basel facility in July 2024, including first-class seat replacements, new cabin carpets, and major C1–C2 inspections. It is configured to carry 33 passengers and eight crew, making a total of 41 seats.
According to aircraftcostcalculator.com, a pre-owned Boeing 737 BBJ sells for an average of $56 million, depending on its condition and maintenance history. The report also estimated that operating the jet costs about $11,561 per flight hour and over $5.2 million annually when fuel, maintenance, and crew expenses are included.
Originally purchased in 2005 for $43 million under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the aircraft has served in the Presidential Air Fleet for nearly two decades. The current administration under President Bola Tinubu announced its sale as part of a cost-cutting measure to reduce government expenses. However, with the plane still unsold, concerns are growing about continued maintenance costs and lack of market interest.
