The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended two of its state chairmen over allegations of colluding with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to disrupt the party’s forthcoming national convention. The suspension was announced on Wednesday following an emergency meeting of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja.
According to the party’s spokesperson, the affected chairmen were accused of holding secret meetings with APC officials and leaking sensitive internal information aimed at destabilizing the PDP ahead of its convention. The NWC said their actions were in clear violation of the party’s constitution and principles of loyalty.
The PDP leadership noted that the alleged collaboration with rival political actors was not only unethical but also an attempt to weaken the party’s unity at a critical moment. The statement added that a disciplinary committee has been set up to investigate the allegations and make recommendations for further action.
Party sources revealed that the move was part of broader efforts to sanitize the PDP’s internal structure and restore public confidence. They emphasized that indiscipline and anti-party activities will no longer be tolerated, especially as the opposition party battles to regain its lost influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The suspension comes amid growing defections of top PDP figures to the ruling APC, raising concerns about the opposition party’s stability. The NWC maintained that the party remains strong and committed to rebuilding its image and ensuring a credible and successful national convention.
