The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Abia State, has issued a strong warning to the public over fraudulent activities surrounding its ongoing recruitment process. The university revealed that some desperate job seekers have started reaching out to contacts within and outside the institution, offering money to secure employment.
In a statement by the Chief Public Relations Officer, Ubadire Agua, the institution expressed concern that individuals were already asking how much it would cost to obtain teaching or non-academic positions. The university had earlier announced vacancies through two national newspapers on October 10, 2025, sparking widespread interest and, unfortunately, fraudulent schemes.
Agua made it clear that employment at MOUAU is not for sale, warning applicants to ignore anyone demanding payment for job placement. He also stressed that the Vice Chancellor, Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, has never requested or accepted any form of gratification in the discharge of his duties.
The spokesperson emphasized that the university would not tolerate corruption in the recruitment process. He further cautioned that any individual caught impersonating the Vice Chancellor or claiming to have job slots would face arrest and prosecution. Likewise, any staff member found aiding such illegal transactions will face disciplinary action.
MOUAU reiterated its commitment to transparency, merit, and fairness, urging applicants to follow only the official recruitment procedures and channels provided by the university.
