Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has predicted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will control at least 30 states by 2026 following the wave of defections from opposition parties. The minister made this statement on Wednesday while addressing journalists in Abuja, expressing confidence in the ruling party’s growing strength and influence across the country.
According to Idris, the mass defection of key political figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition groups is proof that Nigerians now trust the APC-led government under President Bola Tinubu. He said the party’s development agenda, economic reforms, and renewed focus on good governance are attracting both leaders and citizens to its fold.
He cited recent defections in Bayelsa and Enugu states, where top political leaders, including governors and lawmakers, joined the APC. Idris emphasized that these developments show a major political shift ahead of the 2027 general elections. “Our vision is clear — by 2026, the APC will be in control of no fewer than 30 states, setting the stage for a stronger and more united Nigeria,” he said.
The minister also praised President Tinubu’s leadership style, describing it as bold and reform-driven. He noted that the president’s policies on the economy, infrastructure, and security are gradually restoring confidence in the government and the party’s image. “What we are witnessing today is not just politics — it is a realignment of values and commitment to nation-building,” Idris added.
He called on Nigerians to remain patient and supportive of the administration’s reform agenda, assuring that the Renewed Hope Initiative will deliver tangible benefits to all sectors of society. Idris reaffirmed that the APC remains the party of progress, unity, and national development.
