The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 105 suspected drug dealers during a series of coordinated raids across the state. The operation, which took place over several days, was part of a wider effort to curb the sale and consumption of hard drugs in the region.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu, the raids were carried out in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and local vigilante groups. He said the operation targeted known drug hotspots, including Dutse, Hadejia, Gumel, and Kazaure, where several suspects were caught with illegal substances such as cannabis, tramadol, and codeine syrup.
Shiisu added that the arrests followed intelligence reports linking the suspects to drug distribution networks that have been operating in the state for months. He also revealed that the suspects are currently being interrogated, and those found guilty will be charged to court for prosecution.
The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and order in Jigawa, warning residents to stay away from any form of drug trafficking or abuse. The Commissioner of Police urged parents and community leaders to educate their children about the dangers of drug use and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
Residents have praised the police for their efforts, calling for sustained operations to ensure that drug-related crimes are drastically reduced in the state. The crackdown is part of the government’s renewed campaign against substance abuse and its impact on public safety.
