The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has advised members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to use their service year as an opportunity to develop skills and build capacity that will help them contribute meaningfully to national growth. Fubara gave this charge while addressing corps members during their orientation program in Rivers State.
Governor Fubara emphasized that the one-year national service should not be seen as just a routine or a time to seek government jobs, but rather as a platform for personal growth, creativity, and skill acquisition. He encouraged corps members to take advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, which equips participants with practical skills to become self-reliant after their service year.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting youth empowerment initiatives and ensuring that corps members posted to Rivers State enjoy a conducive environment during their stay. According to him, the future of the nation depends largely on how well young Nigerians prepare themselves for leadership and innovation.
Fubara further advised corps members to respect the culture and traditions of their host communities while promoting peace and unity. He noted that their conduct during the service year would reflect not only their character but also the values of the NYSC scheme and the states they represent.
The governor concluded by assuring that his government will continue to partner with the NYSC to enhance its programs and provide opportunities for young Nigerians to thrive beyond the service year.
