Strike: We Won’t Be Intimidated By No-Work-No-Pay Threat – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has firmly rejected the Federal Government’s “No Work, No Pay” directive, declaring that such threats will not intimidate its members. ASUU President, Chris Piwuna, made this known on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today.

Piwuna emphasized that the union remains united and resolute, despite what he described as the government’s attempt to create division among academic unions. “We don’t respond to threats, and nobody can threaten us,” he stated confidently.

He revealed that all academic unions, including the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA), the Congress of Nigerian University Academics (CONUA), the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), stand in solidarity with ASUU. “He wants to divide us, but we are united. CONUA is with us, NAMDA is with us, SSANU is with us, NASU is with us. Even polytechnics and colleges of education are supporting us,” Piwuna said.

The ASUU President urged the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, to focus on resolving the lingering issues rather than issuing threats. He further disclosed that the Minister of State for Labour had reached out to the union to mediate discussions, noting that ASUU remains open to dialogue and ready to engage with the government to find a lasting solution.
