Popular Nigerian content creator and activist, Mr Macaroni, has condemned the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a party “filled with the most corrupt people.” His statement followed public outrage over President Bola Tinubu’s recent pardon of 175 convicted criminals, including drug barons, human traffickers, murderers, and illegal miners.
The presidential pardon, announced last week, sparked widespread criticism across the country, with many Nigerians expressing disbelief and anger on social media. Civil society groups and political commentators have also questioned the government’s decision, calling it a setback in the nation’s fight against crime and corruption.
Quoting a post from an X user, @DOlusegun, who wrote that “civil society organizations should be on the streets protesting,” Mr Macaroni reposted the message and accused the ruling party of hypocrisy. He noted that APC now openly engages in the same actions it once criticized before coming into power.
In a sharp rebuke, Mr Macaroni wrote, “Every evil that the APC once condemned, they now practice and support. APC is a party filled with most corrupt people surrounded by the worst sycophants. A marriage of doom and misfortune!” His post has since gone viral, sparking intense discussions about political accountability and the morality of presidential pardons.
The controversy over Tinubu’s decision has reignited conversations about justice reform and political integrity in Nigeria. Many citizens argue that the pardon undermines the credibility of the justice system and emboldens criminality, while others insist that rehabilitation and forgiveness remain part of governance.
