Anambra transporters endorse Soludo’s re-election bid

Transport unions and operators across Anambra State have declared their full support for Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s re-election bid, praising his administration’s transformation of the transport sector. The endorsement came during a mega rally held at the Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium, Onitsha North Local Government Area, on Monday.

Soludo, who was elected in March 2022 under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), is seeking a second term in office. His government’s “Solution Agenda” has focused on reforms in key sectors, particularly the transportation system — once notorious for multiple taxation, touting, and illegal revenue collection.

Speaking at the rally, Osita Obi, Coordinator of the Anambra Drivers Forum and head of the event’s media committee, applauded Soludo for restoring order, accountability, and dignity to the state’s transport system. He described the governor as a “courageous, visionary, and people-centred reformer.”

“For years, drivers suffered from harassment, extortion, and illegal levies. Governor Soludo listened and acted firmly. Today, touting and multiple taxation are things of the past,” Obi said. He also highlighted the success of the digital unified ticketing system and the Smart Transportation Management System, which have improved road safety, traffic flow, and revenue transparency.

Obi added that the Soludo administration’s massive investment in road construction and rehabilitation has opened up communities and boosted trade and mobility across Anambra. “These are not political slogans — they are real changes that we, the drivers, see and feel daily,” he said.

In his response, Governor Soludo thanked the transporters for their support and reaffirmed his commitment to protecting them from extortion by touts and fake government agents. He announced plans to establish a task force to clamp down on such illegal activities, warning that only payments made through government-approved digital platforms will be recognized.

“Drivers are the lifeline of Anambra’s economy,” Soludo said. “We have rehabilitated roads to reduce vehicle breakdowns and improve livelihoods. We are partners in building a prosperous Anambra.”

Celestine Anere, Managing Director of the Ocha Brigade and Coordinator of the Solution Marshal/Transport, said mobilisation for Soludo’s re-election had been ongoing. He described drivers and transport stakeholders as the “foot soldiers” of the governor’s campaign, ready to defend his mandate through lawful means ahead of the November 8, 2025 election.
