Troops repel ISWAP attack in Borno, neutralise two terrorists

Nigerian Army troops have successfully repelled an attack by Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Borno State, neutralizing two insurgents in the process. The terrorists had attempted to invade a military location in the early hours of Sunday, but the soldiers responded swiftly, engaging them in a fierce gun battle that lasted several minutes. The attackers were overpowered, forcing the rest of them to flee into the nearby forest with gunshot wounds.

According to military sources, the troops recovered several weapons, including AK-47 rifles, magazines, and rounds of ammunition, after the confrontation. The operation, which took place in the volatile northern part of Borno, was part of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts aimed at restoring peace and protecting communities in the North-East region. The army emphasized its commitment to maintaining security and ensuring that terrorist groups no longer threaten citizens’ safety.

Residents of nearby communities commended the troops for their bravery and quick response, noting that their actions prevented what could have been another deadly attack. Many expressed relief and called on the government to continue supporting the military with the necessary logistics to sustain the current momentum against insurgents.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army reaffirmed that it remains fully committed to defeating terrorism and restoring normalcy across Borno and other affected areas. The success of this latest operation, according to security analysts, reflects the improved coordination and determination of the armed forces in the ongoing fight against ISWAP and Boko Haram elements.
