I Am Disappointed – Senator Umeh Condemns Lagos Trade Fair Complex Demolition

Senator Victor Umeh has expressed deep disappointment over the ongoing demolition at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex, describing the action as insensitive and poorly timed. The lawmaker said the demolition exercise has negatively affected many business owners who depend on the complex for their daily income. He called on the government to reconsider its approach and show compassion toward traders who are struggling to survive in the current economic climate.

Speaking to reporters, Senator Umeh criticized the authorities for failing to provide adequate notice or relocation plans before starting the demolition. According to him, such actions destroy livelihoods and worsen the hardship faced by ordinary Nigerians. He urged the relevant agencies to engage in dialogue with affected traders to find a fair and peaceful resolution.

The Senator noted that while urban renewal and infrastructure development are important, they must not come at the expense of citizens’ welfare. He emphasized that a responsible government must always balance progress with human considerations, ensuring that those affected are properly compensated or relocated. Umeh added that leadership should be about protecting the people, not punishing them.

His remarks have since drawn support from the public, especially among traders who welcomed his empathy and called for urgent government intervention. Many Nigerians have also urged policymakers to adopt people-centered reforms that prioritize human needs over forced demolitions.
