Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has credited President Bola Tinubu’s fuel subsidy removal policy for enabling the success of several development projects in Abia State. According to Kalu, the funds saved from the removal of fuel subsidy have given state governments, including that of Governor Alex Otti, the financial freedom to execute impactful projects. He said the initiative is a clear example of how federal reforms can drive local development when resources are properly utilized.
Speaking during a media chat in Umuahia, Kalu praised Governor Otti for channeling the additional revenue into infrastructure, health, and education. He stated that the transformation currently taking place in Abia State would not have been possible without the fiscal space created by Tinubu’s policy decisions. The lawmaker described the synergy between federal economic reforms and state-level execution as a “win-win” for Nigerians.
Kalu urged other governors to emulate Otti by investing subsidy savings transparently and efficiently. He emphasized that Nigeria’s progress depends on how leaders at all levels manage public funds, stressing that both accountability and vision are key to sustainable growth. The Deputy Speaker reiterated his commitment to supporting policies that directly improve citizens’ lives.
