The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the death of three suspected members of the Lakurawa bandit group during a security operation in the state. The operation took place in the early hours of Friday after police received reliable intelligence on the movement of the gang in a remote community.
According to reports, the police team engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle that lasted several minutes. Despite heavy resistance, three of the attackers were neutralized, while others fled with gunshot wounds. The police recovered dangerous weapons, ammunition, and motorcycles believed to have been used in previous attacks.
The Commissioner of Police, who commended the bravery of the officers, said the operation was part of the ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements. He assured residents that the police will not relent until all bandit camps in the state are dismantled.
Residents of nearby communities expressed relief over the success of the operation. Many praised the police for responding swiftly to distress calls and urged the government to deploy more security personnel to vulnerable areas to prevent future attacks.
