Court Dismisses Suit Against Akpabio, Over Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Suspension

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed a lawsuit filed against Senate President Godswill Akpabio concerning the alleged suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the National Assembly. The court ruled that the matter lacked merit and that the claims brought before it did not establish any constitutional violation by the Senate leadership.

Justice Binta Nyako, who presided over the case, stated that the court could not interfere in the internal affairs of the legislature unless there was clear evidence of a breach of law. She further emphasized that parliamentary discipline and internal resolutions are part of legislative independence, which must be respected.

Following the ruling, legal experts and political analysts have described the judgment as a reaffirmation of the separation of powers between the judiciary and the legislature. The Senate President has since expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision, calling it a victory for due process and democracy.
