The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has called for closer collaboration with the State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMA) to improve disaster response across Nigeria. According to NEMA, stronger partnerships will ensure faster rescue operations, better coordination, and reduced loss of lives and property during emergencies.

Officials noted that disasters such as floods, fire outbreaks, building collapses, and road accidents require joint efforts between federal and state emergency agencies. NEMA stressed that without proper coordination, response time slows down, which worsens the impact of disasters on communities.

The agency urged state governments to empower SEMAs with adequate funding, manpower, and equipment, while pledging federal support for training and capacity building. Experts believe that such collaboration is key to creating a more resilient disaster management system in the country.
