Cleric Warns Against DNA Tests For Paternity, Calls It Forbidden In Islam

A popular Islamic cleric has cautioned Muslims against conducting DNA tests to determine the paternity of children. According to him, such tests are not acceptable in Islam and should not be used as a basis to question the legitimacy of children. He stressed that once a child is born within a marriage, the father is recognized by Islamic law without the need for scientific proof.

The cleric explained that relying on DNA could create distrust and break families apart. He maintained that Islam emphasizes family unity and protecting children from stigma. He further argued that DNA results, no matter how accurate, cannot override the teachings of religion regarding lineage and inheritance.

His position has, however, stirred debates among Nigerians, with some supporting his view while others argue that DNA testing helps reveal the truth in cases of infidelity or disputes. The discussion continues to generate attention, especially as more families turn to DNA tests in sensitive situations.
