Political tension in Rivers State has deepened as former Governor Rotimi Amaechi and ex-Minister Abiye Oji criticized Governor Siminalayi Fubara, describing him as a governor “only in name.” According to them, Fubara has failed to show strong leadership and is allegedly controlled by external influences, making him unable to fully exercise his powers as the elected leader of the state.
The statement comes amid ongoing political battles in Rivers, with accusations and counter-accusations between factions loyal to past and present leaders. Amaechi and Oji maintained that Rivers people deserve a governor who is independent, decisive, and able to protect the state’s political and economic interests without outside interference.
Their comments have stirred debate among residents, with some agreeing that Fubara needs to assert himself more, while others argue that the criticisms are politically motivated.
